The Vows

Today is the one-month anniversary for Nathan and Ashley. They had an amazing wedding at Heritage Hill, and we're excited to share much more from their wedding day in a blog post coming soon. So stay tuned!

Until then, we'd thought we'd share one highlight that may otherwise get overlooked by flashier photos of the bridal party and artsy images of the two of them: the wedding vows. We go to a lot of weddings, naturally. All are quite special in their own way, and for Nathan and Ashley's big day, one thing that really stood out was the warmth and laughter between the two of them. Nathan is a stand-up comedian (for real!), and it shows. During his vows, he had a presence that few others are blessed with, and his vows were an unmatched mix of humor and heart.

With the photo-journalistic style we try to utilize, simply pointing a camera at Nathan reading off a piece of paper wouldn't do the moment justice.

He had everyone laughing, and then everyone wiping away tears - so it was our hope (and responsibility, really) to capture that emotion. Here's a little glimpse of our take on it, starting with capturing the vows laying on a hotel table (we're always on the hunt for small details) long before the ceremony, to Nathan putting the finishing touches on his thoughts, to him delivering the vows, to both Ashley's and the wedding guests' reaction to the funny - and touching - words.

We have done soooo many engagement sessions over the years, but have never taken pictures before at Hilly Haven Golf Course. If this session is any indication, we'll be returning often in the future. Working with these two was simply amazing. Just a really laid back, cool couple - and we couldn't be more excited to work with them again. Hilly Haven had so many cool rustic settings to work with, and, honestly, it's hard to pick a favorite from everything we ended up getting. The barns, sheds, bridges - and well, just about everything - was a highlight of the session. Take a look!

Had a gorgeous engagement session in Oshkosh to kick off the spring season. Luckily the weather was kind to us! We started out by Menominee Park, and then traveled to some downtown Oshkosh spots. These two couldn't have been more awesome to work with. Sweet. Kind. And just awesome people!

Did I mention I love my job. I recently had the rare opportunity to photograph twin boys in my studio. Taking newborn pictures for one baby can be a challenge at times, so I figured taking newborn pictures for twins would be even more challenging. Well, the session went really well and both babies slept for me. I was so lucky. Christian and Nathaniel were the sweetest little babies ever. They are not identical twins, but I could not tell them apart.

Finally.....a baby boy!!! Lately, my studio has been one girl after the other. Its nice to get a handsome little man in once in a while. I instantly fell in love with baby Brayden. He had the most gorgeous blonde locks. He was not the most relaxed baby, but after mom fed him he fell fast asleep and I got some sweet pictures.

I cant believe Emersyn is one already!!

She has grown so much since I took her newborn pictures only one year ago. I truly love shooting this age (6 months - 1 year)! The babies are happy and smiley!! Its usually very easy to make them giggle. Emersyn looked adorable in her lovely coral colored dress. Her matching hair bow was the perfect addition. Green Bay Newborn Photographer - It has been quite hectic in my life lately as we just welcomed our own little boy into the world. Luckily, I have been able to squeeze in some newborn sessions!! I had a super sweet newborn session with Georgiana the other day. She was so adorable, I couldn't wait to take her pictures. The session was a breeze. This is a couple we've connected with right from our first consult.

Real. Down to earth. Laid back. Sweet. Genuine. Awesome people.

Getting the chance to get to know them even more during our engagement shoot has us even more excited for their wedding.

It would be hard to count the number of laughs we had during this early-morning session. Yeah, we're gushing here ... but it really was an awesome time taking photos at Anna's parents' farm, while joking with PJ about softball failures.

Oh, and gotta love the sweet photos by the swing set - the place where PJ proposed to Anna!

If you could sum up Lee and Amy's wedding in one word, "Beautiful," "Stunning," "Love," "Romantic," "Perfect" and many others would seemingly work.

Our choice, though, would be: "FUN!"

Lee and Amy, along with their wedding party, were one of the most light-hearted, silly groups we've come across. We still got plenty of romantic, emotional photos throughout the day (the ceremony was gorgeous!), but mixed in between the kisses and "I Dos" was an endless supply of laughter and smiles.

Hard to find the right words to describe this engagement session. Being around Christopher and McKenna, you could just see how much they clicked with each other, and that translated effortlessly into awesome photos - even if we had to dodge some pesky rain showers from time to time to get them. In the end, this session really ran a wide spectrum of styles, too, from simple and sweet to dramatic and powerful. We especially loved the silhouetted shots with the setting summer sky - the clouds, colors and poses created some really unique images.

Needless to say, we could talk all day about this session - and the two awesome people showcased here - but it's best we step aside and let the photos do the talking! Here's a small taste of the many favorites we got from our session in Brillion ...

Jason and Katie's wedding was just overflowing with awesome little touches, decorations and details. We shoot a lot of weddings each year, and the setting for this one was one of the most beautiful we've been at. Grant from Reedsville High School represented the Class of 2015 in awesome fashion during our recent senior photo session. Got such a stunning variety of pics with him. He's a tremendous athlete, who plays football, is a state champion in wrestling, and competes for the track team as well. It was fun incorporating all of his sports into our shoot, and, from there, taking a lot of cool photos around Reedsville and at his family's house.

Visiting the Loppnow family at their farm near Reedsville was a wonderful experience. The most genuine, sweet people ever.

For real. It was was an honor to work with them.

Ok, so the mosquitoes were awful, but other than that, it really was a wonderful evening spent taking photos with them :)

We used many of the fields that surround their place for unique backdrops and settings, and even incorporated some of the youth sports the children are active in during the summer.

When we first did Rick and Alyssa's engagement session a year ago, we were instantly excited for their wedding. We knew it would be beautiful, and it turned out to be even better than we could have ever imagined.

The wedding ceremony itself took place at St. John The Baptist Church in Princeton, Wisconsin. The wedding reception was then held at Royal Ridges in Ripon. The day started off on a high note, as the couple opted to do a first look. Those emotional, exciting moments set the tone for what would be a memorable day of laughs, smiles and love.

Chris and Tara got married in June on an absolutely beautiful day. Only fitting for such a beautiful, wonderful couple. The wedding ceremony took place in Forest Junction, and the reception in Brillion.

They were incredibly nice people to work with, and we loved a lot of the ideas that had for us, including incorporating some tractors and farm scenery into some of their images later in the day. During some downtime between the ceremony and reception, we especially loved getting all the candid photos of kids playing and people visiting at a nearby farm. Those unscripted moments are some of the most cherished over time.

In a spring that didn't have many nice days, Matt and Maggie couldn't have picked a better one for their engagement session this past May. We go together to take some pictures at various spots in Kaukauna. It was really nice to spend time with them and get to know them better, and knowing how awesome they are makes their upcoming wedding in September even more exciting for us.

Another highlight of the engagement session was getting in a few shots with their dog. We love when the four-legged friends get in on the fun!

We were fortunate enough to work with Trent and Jenny, who are simply two incredible people. Nice, genuine, kind people. And, it became pretty clear on their wedding day that they surround themselves with similar company. The friends and family we encountered throughout the day were tremendous to be around. The wedding party, especially, was a great group.

The wedding itself was held at Calvary Lutheran Church in Green Bay, and the reception took place at Thornberry Creek. We made a special stop at Lambeau Field in between, and managed to work around the construction going on there to still get some incredible photos.

ANDY WINS FIVE WISCONSIN NEWSPAPER PHOTOGRAPHY AWARDS

So, at Cloud Seven Photography, we shoot weddings, and families, and high school seniors and newborns, maternity photos, engagements ... and ...

Well, just about EVERYTHING else. EVERYTHING. Seriously.

But, in addition to his work at Cloud Seven with Danielle, Andy is also a reporter and photographer at a newspaper. This keeps a camera in his hand constantly as he captures many aspects of the life and times of the area - festivals, sporting events, accidents, government and school happenings, business features and more.

He was recently honored with several awards for this newspaper work from the Wisconsin Newspaper Association in its annual Better Newspaper Contest.

There are roughly 220 combined weekly and daily newspapers in the state. Of those, 51 newspapers entered and received photography awards in any of the six WNA photography award categories for 2013. Andy won or co-won awards in five of those categories in his newspaper's division, making him the ONLY photographer in the state to win that many awards for a single newspaper this year. Exciting stuff.

His newspaper, The Brillion News (Brillion News & Lake to Lake Shopper), was also the only newspaper in the entire state to win a photography award in all six categories.

Individually, Andy won first place for Best Sports Photo (a basketball photo during last year's state tournament) and Best Spot News Photo (for a picture of a damaged barn after severe storms hit the area this past summer). Andy also took second place for Best General News Photo and co-won first place for Best Photo Essay.

Coolest of all, he was part of a group of staff photographers and freelancers that won Best Overall Newspaper Photography for his newspaper. And, one freelancer that helped contribute to this last award was none other than his partner at Cloud Seven - Danielle Her freelance photos of a summer parade were one of the featured photo packages of the winning papers that were judged. Sweet!

In addition to his photography honors, Andy also won four other newspaper awards for his writing skills. He has 16 Wisconsin Newspaper Association photography awards to his credit now, and over 35 total WNA honors in the past six years.

Looking back at all the amazing couples we've worked with and weddings we've been fortunate to be apart of in 2013 is so humbling and amazing! It was a tremendous year, filled with way too many cherished images to count for us here at Cloud Seven Photography. Way, way too many! We took more than 100,000 wedding photos! That said, we've tried to assemble just a small taste of our favorite photos from the past 12 months. Our wedding photography took us from Lambeau Field in Green Bay to the rustic setting of Heritage Hill to downtown Appleton to Manitowoc to Beaver Dam up to Door County and so much more. Mackenzie will be a senior this year at Brillion High School. She wanted to capture unique senior portraits. Senior pics in the snow - now thats different, but very cool! This was one of many ideas that Stephanie brought to our shoot (courtesy of a Pinterest addiction!). But seriously, it's awesome when clients bring ideas to shoots, and these couldn't have turned out any better.

One of the last shots of the day. Simple, but powerful.

A lot going on in this shot, but it all blends so well. Love the spacing between the rocks leading to the towering trees. An unexpected shot during our shoot, and a great one!

Another Stephanie-driven idea - and a great one! Really liked this one a lot and we're so excited to shoot their wedding! When is it again? Oh yeah ...

Had a great time shooting this mini-session just before Thanksgiving. Such polite children, and very sweet, too!

This shot on the docks was the little man's suggestion. Nice choice!

Really enjoyed this senior photo session. It wasn't long, but the great shots came quick and often. I love this shot of Kyle and his tractor. The sky in the background gave the shot an awesome feel.

Simple, yet awesome.

This silhouette of Kyle and his bow couldn't have turned out any better. It's a little unconventional for "senior" photos, but it's one of our favorites this year.

Classic. Good luck at Reedsville the rest of the year, man.

Chase & Veronica Wedding

This was just a beautiful wedding from start to finish. Danielle had a really awesome day behind the lens covering the day, too. This is one of those quiet moments that become an instant classic, with Danielle getting this gorgeous shot of the bride putting on the final touches as her bridesmaids help - just moments before walking down the aisle.

Another terrific shot by Danielle. She loves taking ring shots, and it shows in her work.

And to finish up, here's a few of our hands-down favorites of the day taken outside the reception hall. Very beautiful and romantic, if we do say so ourselves!

Fun shoot in De Pere with Kelsi. We had a good time exploring a ton of different locations I haven't shot at before.

Kelsi wanted to stay away from too many of the typical cliche backgrounds found in senior photos, and we managed to do that easily. Still, it was hard to pass up this nice wooded backdrop for one of our shots.

This shot really blew us away. Just love how much the red door, steps and brick pop in the background.

There's so many cool shopfronts in East De Pere. We stopped at one here to get a quick shot.

Kyle and Katie were a lot of fun. It was cold out this day, but they were good sports about trying a lot of different things despite the cool temperatures. Love this picture.

A cute couple!

Just really liked the vibe of this picture as the sun darts in from the background and spreads across the grass.

Maybe not our typical style of portrait, but this is still probably one of our favorite engagement photos of the season. The woods and stream really give off a vintage look here. The whole scene as a lot to look at and enjoy.

Legacy & Laughs

Had an extremely fun timing shooting this Legacy session with Spencer. For those of you not sure what a "Legacy" session is, in essence it's a short photo-op to capture someone in their element, enjoying their hobby, showing off their business, etc. Pics are mostly in black-and-white. We've got more information posted about it in our pricing section. Anyway, Spencer's session was a blast. Not only did we get some wicked cool shots of him doing stand-up comedy in West De Pere, but it was a great night to sit back after our session and enjoy some sweet comedy at Venture Theatre in De Pere. Highly recommend checking out the place if you like to have a drink and a good laugh.
